Some Helpful Hints - Because We Do Not Want To Feel Deprived!
Drink more water. In the winter months we tend to drink less and can easily become dehydrated. Drink a 16-ounce glass of water with lemon or vinegar first thing in the morning and continue to hydrate throughout the day.
If you are drinking alcohol, drink one or two glasses of water for every alcoholic drink.
Before drinking alcohol or eating inflammatory foods, have a scoop of green powder mixed with water and a squeeze of lemon juice. Have another in the evening or add a scoop to your morning smoothie.
Try to begin every day with a green smoothie. This way you will have a few veggie servings and some fruit. The antioxidants and phytonutrients will help to fight colds and flu. Mix some protein; either chia, hemp protein or nuts with your smoothie to keep you strong all morning long. Chia is especially good for this because it gives you lots of fiber and keeps you satiated for many hours. Starting your day this way will make it easier to stay on target for the whole day.
Lunch is a great time to have a huge salad mixed with nuts and legumes. Soup is another good choice for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
Make a big pot of brown rice or quinoa to have on hand for the week. You can add it to a stir-fry, mix in beans and tomato sauce or mix with fruit and nuts.
The best grains to keep you looking your best are millet, quinoa, amaranth, brown rice and buckwheat. These grains are gluten-free and are alkalizing to the body. If possible soak grains overnight to deactivate the enzyme inhibitors that coat the grain and will make them easier to digest.
When going to a party, bring a healthy dish to share. I usually bring some kind of grain salad mixed with roasted veggies and some nuts and dried fruit. This gives a nice holiday flair and assures you will have some protein and healthy fat with your meal.
When faced with an impossible menu make the best decisions you can, and eat raw, green and fibrous first. If you do eat some unhealthy foods, enjoy them and move on. Don’t ever feel guilty about eating something you shouldn’t.
